A. 
PURPOSE OF POSITION: 
To assist the Swim Instructor in leading the class in proper techniques by using drills and 
other activities to further the skills of the participants. May do ancillary work as directed. 
 
B. 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 
 
The Assistant is assigned daily work assignment(s). 
  
C. 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: 
 
May lead the class in skills activities and enforce discipline. 
 
D. 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 
1. 
To instruct participants in correct Red Cross swimming skills as directed. 
2. 
May take attendance, do test scoring, and update swim records. 
3. 
May work with an individual on technique. 
4. 
May lead class drills and activities. 
5. 
Do other related work as assigned. 
 
E. 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill & Ability): 
Must have physical strength, stamina and flexibility to demonstrate all swim skills which 
are taught. Must be able to be active in the water for substantial periods of time in each 
class conducted that day. 
  
F. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
Must have completed and passed American Red Cross Basic Water Safety Course.
