i Call to order: Chairlady Sanders called the Waterford Senior Citizens Commission
Regular meeting to order at 4:01 p.m.
I. Establish a quorum: A quorum was established.
HL Public Comment: No public comment
IV. New Business: Administration Update
First Selectman, Rob Brule addressed the Commission with information about
the development of a human service model that included both family services
and senior services, A discussion followed with questions.
V. . Approval of the minutes of the January 25, 2022 meeting. Chairlady Sanders asked for
additions, deletions, or corrections to the minutes.
MOTION: Motion made by Anita Collins, seconded by Dina Lopes to approve the
meeting minutes as presented.
VOTE: 5-0-1 (D. Judith Crawford abstained, Kathleen McNamara left before the vote}
Vi Correspondence
a. Letter with attachments from the Historic Tile Mural Ad Hoc Committee
MOTION: Motion made by Rev. James Johnson, seconded by Anita Collins to accept the
recommendation of the Historic Tile Mural Ad Hoc Committee’s letter and
enclosures regarding the non-tile expenses from the project be divided evenly
between the Senior Endowment and the Playground Funds per the report and
minutes from their February 17, 2022 meeting.
VOTE: 6-0
MOTION: Motion made by Dina Lopes, seconded by Rev, James Johnson to dissolve the
Historic Tile Wall Mural Ad Hoc Committee with gratitude and d appreciation from
Senior Citizens Commission.

a. Budget—FY’23 Budget — March 7, 2022 7:00 p.m. Board of Finance Meeting
b. Nominating Committee — Reappointment letters for James Johnson, Kathleen
McNamara.and Joyce Viaun have been prepared and will be sent out tomorrow.
c. Transportation Sub Committee — No report
d. Planned Giving Sub-Committee
MOTION: Motion made by Dina Lopes, seconded by Joyce Viaun to approve the
. distribution of the proceeds from the Historic Tile Mural Ad Hoc
Committee's project as recommended in their meeting minutes and
enclosures.
VOTE: 6-0
VIL. Director/Assistant Director Report for February 2022 (attached)
Highlights included: Waterford Senior Services was presented with a Certificate of
Recognition as a Community Focal Point from Senior Resources, Agency on Aging. Our 16
week exercise classes are back, AARP tax season has started with 150 slots filled.

Personal Note From The Director:
This is my last director’s report for the commission. |am sorry | am not there but my vacation was
scheduled before | knew this would be the last report. | wanted to thank each and every one of you for
your support and guidance over these past years. | have appreciated your dedication to our shared goal
of providing the best possible services to the seniors of Waterford. Who knew we would be facing the
challenges of a world-wide pandemic? Not me! All credit to the staff of Waterford Senior Services. We
found ways to keep in communication with the seniors in town, including those most vulnerable to the
effects of social isolation. We quickly figured out how to still provide social events while maintaining the
utmost in safety. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. This role has been the culmination of
my long career in providing social services to those in need. | take with me your “can do” spirit and
enough life lessons from the seniors of Waterford to make the road ahead seem possible, if not still a
tiny bit daunting! All my best to all of you as you embark on this new model of service delivery in
Waterford. To quote Queen Elsa from Frozen, we are all heading “...into the unknown!” May we all go
there with open minds and a continued dedication to insuring that the senior members of the
Waterford community continue to enjoy the best Senior Services in this region.
Events and Occurances:
On February 9", Senior Services hosted a Valentine’s luncheon for 50 diners. Thanks to commission
members Anita and Annie who lent a hand with managing the festivities. There were special surprise
guests including First Selectman Rob Brule and Officer Fredericks who brought Officer Hodges with him.
Officer Hodges once again proved that he is indeed a very good boy!
Agrant application was submitted to Senior Resources, Area Agency on Aging in the amount of
$3,497.00. The purpose of the grant is to purchase electronic equipment that will aid in reducing social
isolation amongst seniors. We are planning to use the grant to purchase 12 chrome book laptops for
computer classes and a large smart TV to be used by the Open Doors Program.
A request will be submitted to HR for-hiring of a new Open Doors facilitator.

Activities & Programs:
We continue to assist seniors is scheduling their Covid vaccines/boosters, obtaining free kits online,
testing sites and mask distributions — this has slowed down considerably.
Applications for Energy Assistance — Ongoing (129 so far)
Renter’s Rebate: Starts up again 4/1/22
We are back to our *16 week Exercise classes as of November 1°
Strength Training, Movement & Dance, Yoga, Matter of Balance, Healthy Stretch, Hearty
Moves, Chair yoga, & Tai Chi
Hybrid (ZOOM) classes continue to be popular
Therapeutic Massage is now being offered 1xM — appointment times are usually booked up.
Computer Tutor is back each Wednesday 1-3, led by a senior volunteer, We will also be introducing
some new volunteers from Waterford High School to heip with tech tutoring and they will host.a 4
week series of classes on basic computing.
More and more people continue to work their way back into the center with card games, board games,
making puzzles, quilting and other activities.
Tax season has started with 150 slots filled.
