HISTORIC PROPERTIES COMMISSION
Minutes
March 9, 2021
The March 9, 2021 Regular Meeting of the Historic Properties Commission was
called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chairman John O’Neill.
Present: Patrick Crotty, Robert Nye, Eileen Olynciw, John O'Neill, Debra Walters
Absent: Vivian Brooks
Also in attendance: Danielle Gelinas, Chair of the Education Standing Committee of
the RTM
Appointment of Alternates: M. Olynciw for V. Brooks
Minutes: Motion by E. Olynciw, seconded by P. Crotty, to accept the Minutes of the
November 10, 2020 Annual Meeting.
Voting in favor: Unanimous.
FY ‘20 Annual Report: Has been filed by R. Nye
Nevins Cottage: $150,000 has been placed in the proposed Capital Plan budget,
with the support of Rob Brule, First Selectman, to be used towards action on the
Nevins Cottage. The Board of Finance is scheduled to vote on this at their March
17, 2021 meeting.
M. Olynciw will update the “Save Nevins Cottage” Facebook page with this current
information.
Eugene O’Neill Theater: J. O’Neill reported that he has reached out to the new
Executive Director.
Cemeteries: E. Olynciw reported that she has published 14 articles on
neglected/abandoned cemeteries to date. There was discussion around the
possibility of publishing them in book form.
R. Nye reported a Baker Map (1854) that shows another cemetery in the area of
the Gorton Cemetery.
Oil Mill District: R. Nye reported that the designation may occur this Spring.
Adjournment: Motion by M. Olynciw, seconded by E. Olynciw to adjourn at
7:34 p.m.
