The Waterford Recreation and Parks Commission held their regular
monthly meeting on July 28, 2020. Chairman Santos chaired the
meeting.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Cs. Santos, Whelan, Erricson, Scheiber,
Kanabis and Murphy, DIRECTOR Flaherty, Program Coordinator
Sullivan
MEMBERS ABSENT: Cs. Gardiner, Hall
GUESTS: Kristen Widham, Charles Selden
MOTION #1: Made by C. Whelan, seconded by C. Kanabis to approve the
minutes of the June 23, 2020 meeting as received. So voted 6-0
CORRESPONDENCE: Historical Society proposal for a new sign on the
Jordan Green
Representatives from the Historical Society spoke to the members
regarding a new sign design for the Jordan Green. Mr. Selden spoke on
the design, and materials to be used. A draft was passed around. A
discussion was held.
MOTION #2: Made by C. Erricson, seconded by C. Whelan to approve the
proposed sign as presented. Motion carried 6-0.
STAFF REPORTS: Reports were accepted as received and placed on file.
In addition Director Flaherty reported on the beaches being very busy
with the virus and the hot weather. He will speak with the Chief of
Police, requesting more assistance, especially on weekends and
extremely hot days. He also reported that the tennis courts will be
repaired this summer and will have a 5-year warranty. The bathroom
project is moving along with utilities, pads in place and new
sidewalks all in progress. The department now has credit card service!
He is waiting for applications for two (2) new maintainers. One
summer maintainer has been hired. Also discussed was a proposed
change to Ordinance 12.08.40, concerning alcoholic beverages at
permitted time and locations. This proposal will be placed on the RTM
meeting, for discussion.
The Program Coordinator reported that the Fall Program Booklet is
being printed at this time. Plans are for programs starting in
October if openings for the Community Center and the schools occur.
August concerts have been cancelled as well as reservations at the
picnic shelters for the season. The Youth Services Bureau, Recreation
and Parks and the Library, will hold a “drive-in” movie night at
Waterford Beach. Sixty car reservations will be allotted. There will
be police and fire equipment in attendance.
PROPERTIES: A discussion was held on the North Little League field’s
usage. The Director will speak with the president of the league.
MOTION #3: Made by C. Murphy, seconded by C. Whelan to adjourn. So
voted 6-0.
