Waterford Recreation and Parks Commission July 22, 2025 @ 4:30 pm Waterford Community Center The Recreation and Parks Commission held a regular scheduled meeting on July 22, 2025 at the Waterford Community Center. Meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by Commission Member, T. Santos and a quorum was established. Members in attendance: N. Scheiber, T. Santos, T. Burrows, R. Erricson, B. Kyne Members Absent: E. Murphy, M. Sheehan, T. Stino, M. Chiappone Staff: R. McNamara (Director), T. Cieplik (Program Coordinator) Approval of Meeting Minutes: Motion by R. Erricson and seconded by N. Scheiber to approve the June 24, 2025 meeting minutes with the addition of M. Chiappone being added to the members absent. Vote: 5-0-0 Motion: Approved Public Comment: None Correspondence: The Commission noted that they had received three letters in regards to our staff providing safety, helping in events and keeping the grounds around the town looking great from T. Mangiafico, T. Wheeler, and S. Kenniston. Staff Reports: R. McNamara – The office is still busy with beach sticker sales. Civic triangle discussion with the First Selectman & Environmental Planner to get two new bench pads on the library side of the walk. The certificate of completion has been received for Leary Park and Park and Rec Director will walk with the Risk Manager. Looking to open the weekend of 7/26/2025. The final quote has come in for the pavilion at the Children’s Playground in the Civil Triangle. Motion by N. Scheiber and seconded T. Burrows to do a bid waiver that will allow the Gardner Family foundation to select M. E. O’Brien as the vendor for the pavilion. Vote: 5-0-0 Motion: Approved Board of Selectman meeting is 7/22 for the money to be released for the Leary park phase II from appropriated to designated and surplus of an old copier. Assistant Director: T. Cieplik – We are in our busiest time of the year with Playground and Summer Concerts. Big thank you out to Dominion and as our top sponsor for the summer concerts and all sponsors. We have been able to have 70% of our expenses covered. Nature Education programs will take place this fall and we are hoping to grow more outdoor programs. Co-sponsor programs numbers were low and working with Camp Dash to get the word out with flyers. Committee Reports: Personnel – Program Coordinator position is out to the public and will close on August 4th. Youth Sports Council – no update Long Range Planning – Director R. McNamara will reach out to T. Burrows and forward Policies and Procedures – Director R. McNamara, T. Santos and E. Murphy have been meeting monthly Representative Reports: Board of Education – No update Board of Finance – No update Historical Society – McDowell Piano event at the Community Center on 7/31/2025. O’Neill Theater – Commission would like to meet in October at the O’Neill Theater Senior Services – No update New Business: A discussion took place in regards to using Stenger Farm as a Little League complex with walking paths. Consideration of bench donations for the walkway in front of the Community Center Adjournment: Motion by R. Erricson and seconded by T. Burrows to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 pm.
