The Waterford Recreation and Parks Commission held their regular monthly
meeting on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 via zoom.
Chairperson Santos chaired the meeting and called the meeting to order at
4:00pm

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Cs. Santos, Scheiber, Murphy, Hall, Gardiner and
Erricson.

ABSENT MEMBERS:  Cs. Whelan and Kanabis.

STAFF: Director Flaherty, Assistant Director McNamara and Program
Coordinator Sullivan were in attendance.

MOTION #1: Made by Cs. Erricson seconded by Cs. Murphy to accept the
minutes of the October 2020 meeting.  So voted 5-0

CORRSPONDENCE:  None

STAFF REPORTS:  Director Flaherty notified the commission that they may
hear about work wanting to be done around the Arnold Holmes Pond.  The
First Selectman is working on this project.  In addition, Director Flaherty
is looking to have students from Waterford High work with him on planting a
variety of plants at the pond to help keep the geese away.

Director Flaherty notified the commission at this time that Cs. Kanabis has
sent in her resignation.  A letter will be sent to Cs. Kanabis thanking her
for her years of service.  She asked that he relay her appreciation to her
fellow commission members and wishing them happy holidays.

Cs. Gardiner arrived 4:07pm making the vote count change on any forthcoming
motions.

Director Flaherty also notified the commission that the RTM would be
meeting on December 7 and could be ratifying the 1303 contract which would
change numbers in the 2021 budget that is currently being worked on.
Therefore, there will be a special meeting of the commission so that
budgets can be delivered by December 11, 2020.
The director also reported that the Annual Report as well as CIP’s have
been turned in.

Assistant Director McNamara reviewed his staff report with the commission.
He informed the commission that there is a position of a Maintainer II
still open in the department and we are awaiting getting that filled.

Program Coordinator Sullivan, reported that there are a number of changes
to the holiday events.  Most have been cancelled; the tree will be lite
without any events.  The big event will be the fireworks on Thursday,
December 31, 2020 at Waterford Beach at 6pm.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: were discussed.

REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS: Cs. Scheiber noted the Mural Committee is hoping to
have the mural done by the end of December.  Cs. Hall reported that the
Board of Education has been very busy with the different learning styles
and covid cases.

OLD BUSINESS: Nothing at this time

NEW BUSINESS:  Special Meeting to review the 2021 budget will be Wednesday,
December 9 at 4:00pm via zoom.

MOTION #2: Made by Cs. Erricson and seconded by Cs. Murphy to adjourn.  So
voted 6-0.
Meeting adjourned at 4:36pm.
