The Waterford Recreation and Parks Commission held their regular monthly meeting (via zoom) on 
Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.  Chairman Santos presided.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:  Cs. Santos, Gardiner, Murphy, Chiappone, Beaney, Erricson
MEMBERS ABSENT:  Cs. Hall, Whelan, Scheiber
STAFF:  Director Flaherty, Program Coordinator Sullivan
MOTION #1:  Made by C. Erricson, seconded by C. Murphy to approve the minutes of the January 26, 
2021 meeting as corrected.  So voted 6-0.
CORRESPONDENCE:  Finance Board/RTM Budget meeting schedules,
         Thank you note from Pickle Ball members.
STAFF REPORTS:  Director Flaherty reviewed his report.  He explained his 2022 Proposed Budget 
meeting with the Board of Selectmen.  He reported that there has been 80 wood orders as of this date.  
He is waiting for the approval of the Maintainer I position to be filled, as we have lost our part-time 
maintainer.  We are still on COVID-19 restrictions and waiting for an opening date for outdoor activities 
to begin. The new beach bathrooms have been ordered and will be available this summer.  RecDesk, 
with Credit card/software training continues.  Leary Park BB court reconstruction and Town Hall BB 
court repairs are planned for the spring of 2021.  Irrigation projects at Vet’s field and Leary Park will be 
re-visited. The new beach fees were approved by the RTM at their February meeting.
The Program Coordinator reviewed her report.  She has been attending ZOOM meetings with other Ct. 
Park& Recreation departments. She is waiting for permission to use the pool and begin different 
programs. She has had requests to use the Community Center for different town departments for  
training/testing sessions.  She is working on plans to open the beaches and has sent out the summer 
booklet.  At this time, the summer swim lessons will be held in the fall.  
COMMITTEE REPORTS:  A meeting for the Youth Sports Council will be held on Friday, 2/26/21.
PROPERTIES:  A lot of activity has been noted at different areas of town, including the playground in the 
Civic Triangle and the Dog Park.
OLD BUSINESS:  Discussion was held on the Ordinance allowing beer and wine sales and consumption 
permitted at the Town Civic Triangle and grass field areas at Waterford Beach Park.
MOTION #2:  Made by C. Erricson, seconded by C. Gardiner to again, table this discussion until further 
information is received.  So voted 6-0.
NEW BUSINESS: Ideas for outdoor activities for families such as kickball, Easter Egg Hunt, Fishing Derby, 
Trails, etc.  were discussed.
MOTION #3:  Made by C. Erricson, seconded by C. Beaney to adjourn.  So voted 6-0.  Meeting  was 
adjourned at 4:46 p.m.
