The September 13, 2022 Regular Meeting of the Historic Properties Commission was called to
order at 7:04 p.m. by Chairman, John O’Neill. ‘
Present: Patrick Crotty, Robert Nye (alt.), John O’Neill, Eileen Olynciw, Mark Olynciw (alt.),
Debra Walters, Warren Mackenzie (alt.)
Appointment of Alternates: R. Nye for Vivian Brooks
Minutes: Motion by R. Nye, seconded by P. Crotty to accept the minutes of the Regular Meeting
of May 10, 2022. Voting in favor: Unanimous
Waterford Historic Properties: Motion: D. Walters, seconded by R. Nye, to direct R. Nye to
write a letter to R. Brule, First Selectman, requesting that $15,000-20,000 be included in the
capital plan for a condition assessment of the Jordan Park House. Voting in favor: Unanimous
Waterford Historical Society Happenings: D. Walters reported a CT Humanities grant was
obtained. The Society hosted two living history events during the summer at which costumed
historians explained, demonstrated, and spoke to some essential actives of life in Waterford
during the mid-1800’s. They are now working to obtain grants to assess collections and support
building maintenance.
Nevins Cottage: On September 16, 2022, GNCB will provide the town with a cost update on
their earlier proposal. There will then be a conference call to determine if the monies currently
set aside cover the new cost.
Eugene O’Neill Theater Center: J. O’Neill reported that he is working on a committee, with A.
Piersall, Paul Coelle, Gary Schneider, and the theater’s new Managing Director, charged with
obtaining proposals for a condition assessment of the Hammond Mansion.
Cemeteries: Motion: R. Nye, seconded by D. Walters, to direct R. Nye to write a letter
requesting the town to take ownership of Durfey Hill Cemetery. Voting in favor: Unanimous
Oil Mill District: R. Nye reported that its national historic registration is not yet complete.
Adjournment: Motion by P. Crotty seconded by R. Nye to adjourn at 8:36 p.m. Voting in favor:
