1 FLOOD & EROSION CONTROL BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES January 24, 2022 Present: Baird Welch-Collins Chris Callahan George Harran Jennifer Kohl Absent: Alexander Kuvalanka 1. CALL TO ORDER. Chairman Welch-Collins called the Regular Meeting of January 24, 2022 to order at 7:00 p.m. 2. APPROVAL MEETING MINUTES OF THE FLOOD AND EROSION CONTROL BOARD. MOTION (1): Mr. Callahan moved to approve the December 1, 2021 Meeting Minutes of the Flood and Erosion Control Board, as presented. Seconded by Mr. Harran. (4) Unanimous 3. PUBLIC COMMENT. There were no guests. 4.TREASURER’S REPORT. Mr. Kuvalanka was not present, and there was no report. 5. OLD BUSINESS a. Niantic River Road Erosion Report. Mr. Welch-Collins suggested a spring time site walk to see if there has been any change to Niantic River Road. Mr. Callahan suggested also requesting a status report. 6. NEW BUSINESS a. Election of Officers for 2022. The Commission was asked for nominations for Treasurer of the Flood & Erosion Board for 2022. MOTION (2): Mr. Harran moved to nominate Mr. Kuvalanka as Treasurer of the Flood & Erosion Control Board for 2022. Seconded by Ms. Kohl. There were no other nominations for Treasurer. A vote was taken and Mr. Kuvalanka was unanimously elected Treasurer of the Flood & Erosion Control Board for 2022. The Commission was asked for nominations for Vice Chairman of the Flood & Erosion Control Board. MOTION (3): Mr. Callahan moved to nominate Ms. Kohl as Vice Chair of the Flood & Erosion Control Board for 2022. 2 There were no other nominations. A vote was taken and Ms. Kohl was unanimously elected as Vice-Chair of the Flood & Erosion Control Board for 2022. The Board was asked for nominations for Chairman of the Flood & Erosion Control Board. MOTION (4): Ms. Kohl moved to nominate Mr. Welch-Collins as Chairman of the Flood & Erosion Control Board for 2022. There were no other nominations for Chairman of the Flood & Erosion Control Board. A vote was taken and Mr. Welch-Collins was unanimously elected Chairman of the Flood & Erosion Control Board. b. Goals for 2022. Mr. Harran suggested that Board members do water sampling. He felt in the past it was done, and he felt it was beneficial. Mr. Welch-Collins felt to gather that information would be beneficial for the Town and this Board. Mr. Callahan agreed to contact Ms. Fitzgerald to ask what supplies this Board has. Mr. Welch-Collins agreed to speak to the Marine Science teacher and request that he and some of his students attend a meeting of this Board to discuss whether or not students wish to become involved in water sampling. Mr. Harran suggested that Board members visit Shore Road to see what the Master Gardener has done to deter further eroding. 7. PLANS REVIEW. There were no plans received. 8. CORRESPONDENCE. No new correspondence was received. 9. PAYMENT OF BILLS. There were no new bills received. 10. ADJOURNMENT. MOTION (5): Mr. Callahan moved to adjourn the Flood & Erosion Control Board January 24, 2022 Meeting at 7:30 p.m. Seconded by Ms. Kohl. (4-0) Unanimous.
