ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES:

9, 2022 Regular Meeting and the May 16, 2022 Special Meeting. Passed unanimously.

CHIEF'S REPORT:

OLD BUSINESS:
a. Officer Nickerson discussed the speed bumps at the beach. Three will be purchased by
Recreation and Parks once final pricing and measurements are calculated.
b. Commissioner Dimmock is working on a draft for criteria relating to the Chief of Police
position. Data from other towns was also reviewed by Commissioner Dimmock. He is
drafting procedures to discuss whether the position is filled internally or externally or
in case there was ever a need for an Interim Chief.
NEW BUSINESS:
a. The Chief provided a flyer for a seminar that the town is offering to all officials and board members.
The seminar is June 29, 2022, with Kevin Booker, Jr. Chief Balestracci mentioned he attended a
similar seminar with the same presenter and was very impressed and recommended it if they were
able to attend.
b. Chief Balestracci updated the commission as to the unanimous RTM vote in reference to the inter-
local SRT agreement with Ledyard PD.
C. Discussion about mutual aid to the City of New London for Sailfest in July.
d. Discussion ensued about short-term property rentals in town and responsibilities of the police
department. Chief Balestracci mentioned issues that could be addressed by the department and the
responsibilities of Planning and Zoning on the issue. Chief Balestracci advised that very few calls
related to short-term rentals have been received by the department.
e. Chief Balestracci updated the commission on the fiscal year budget, indicating he didn’t expect any
out of series transfers will be needed to close the budget cycle.
f. Chief Balestracci updated the commission on the new mobile data computers that have all been
installed in the cruisers as the previous equipment had reached the end of its life expectancy and was
failing.

MOTION: Made by Commissioner Dimmock and seconded by Commissioner Gelinas to adjourn the meeting at
5:40 p.m. Passed unanimously.
