Memory Café Program*
The café offers an opportunity for social engagement 
for anyone experiencing changes in their memory or 
thinking, accompanied by their care partners. Held at 
the Waterford Community Center. Registration through

When Helping Hurts: Why Family Patterns Repeat- and 
What to Do Instead 
Families often find themselves facing the same tensions 
and challenges over time—even when everyone is 
trying their best. This talk explores how well-
intentioned responses like being strong, responsible, or 
helpful can sometimes make situations more difficult 
without us realizing it. Drawing on over 20 years of 
clinical experience, Dr. Gail DeMarco Zuckerbraun leads 
this discussion.   This program is educational, 
conversational, and designed for a general audience.  
No registration is required.

Friday Afternoon Book Club: Literary Tea & Tour 
at Harkness*
Join us for a special literary tea and tour co-
sponsored with The Friends of Harkness. We will 
gather at the historic Eolia Mansion to discuss 
Edith Wharton’s classic Gilded Age novel, The 
Age of Innocence written in 1920. The event 
features a delightful brunch and tea, discussion, 
then a guided tour. Registration is required by 
Friday, September 11 as space is limited.  
There is a fee of $25 with
payment due at the door. 
Please note that this special event 
replaces our regularly scheduled 
Friday Afternoon discussion.

Bonjour Basics with Madame S.
A fun, beginner-friendly introduction to French 
that offers a clear and accessible entry point into 
the language. Participants learn essential 
vocabulary, pronunciation basics, and practical 
conversational expressions through guided 
practice and interactive, culturally rich activities. 
Registration is required. Our presenter is 
Madame S., a certified French educator and 
native francophone with extensive experience 
teaching beginner learners.

AMERICA 250 CT PROGRAM
Tuesday, September 22, 6:30PM - 7:30PM
Portrayal: Jordan Freeman, The Fight to Set a People Free 
Jordan Freeman, an African American servant of John Ledyard and the body servant of Col. William Ledyard in 
the Revolutionary War is portrayed by Kevin Johnson.  Jordan Freeman was an actual person, although he did 
not enlist himself, he witnessed key events of the war for independence while with Col. Ledyard.  The 
presentation is based on extensive research in the collections of the Connecticut State Library and the Museum 
of Connecticut History. Kevin Johnson is an employee of the State Library’s History and Genealogy Unit, and he 
has been portraying Jordan Freeman for about 17 years. Additional information about the State Library and the
