Dear Moderator Driscoll and Members of the Representative Town Meeting,
Tam writing to express my interest in serving as a member of the Waterford Ethics Commission. I was grateful
to be contacted about this opportunity and am happy to provide the following background for the RTM’s
consideration.
T’ve lived in Waterford for eleven years, having originally relocated to the area to work at Electric Boat. Today
I work locally at Sonalysts, Inc. as an electrical and computer engineer, developing software and scripts that
enable contractors in the submarine community to collaborate on complex, interconnected systems. The work
demands rigorous critical thinking and the ability to deep-dive into difficult problems — skills I’m eager to
bring to public service.
Beyond my professional experience, seven years as Secretary of the Board of Directors for Spark Makerspace, a
non-profit in New London, CT, left me well-versed in Robert’s Rules of Order and the careful interpretation of
organizational bylaws — experience that translates directly to reading and applying the language of town
ordinances.
Professional ethics have been central to my engineering career. Engineering education places a strong emphasis
on ethical conduct, precisely because poor judgment or malpractice in technical fields can have serious, even
life-threatening consequences. That foundation has shaped my values: accountability, fairness, and transparency
in government matter deeply to me, as does the responsibility to ensure that Waterford’s governance serves its
citizens above all else.
Perhaps the clearest illustration of my civic engagement is waterforddocs.org — a free public search tool that
makes Waterford’s town meeting minutes, agendas, and other public documents fully searchable for any
resident. There was a problem, I had the skills to solve it, so I built it. More recently, I’ve been attending town
board and committee meetings regularly to deepen my understanding of how Waterford’s government works,
and I’m ready to contribute that same energy and commitment to the Ethics Commission.
