Regarding us increasing the price of our out of town beach. It is reasonable because our town’s operating costs are higher, which is reflected in the taxes paid by our residents. Because our taxpayers are already contributing more to support these expenses, we do not believe it is appropriate to increase the cost of resident beach passes. However, we are adjusting non-resident beach pass fees to better reflect rising operating costs and to remain consistent with pricing at surrounding towns and public beaches. Features include concrete walkways, air-conditioned restrooms, accessibility mats on the sand, and attentive, professional lifeguards. The beach is a quiet, family-friendly destination with a quarter-mile of largely unmodified shoreline, one of the state's best intact dune systems, and scenic views of Long Island Sound. Visitors enjoy guarded, shallow swimming, clean facilities, and a tranquil, less-crowded alternative to nearby commercial beaches. Given these advantages, our pricing should be aligned with—if not slightly above—other area beaches. We should not underprice what we offer. It is reasonable, especially as local taxes rise, to charge non-residents a modestly higher fee so that our beach remains well maintained and financially sustainable.
