From: Katie Dragon To: Jonathan Mullen Subject: Pedestrian safety concerns with development project (in relation to the public hearing tomorrow) Date: Monday, October 21, 2024 12:46:03 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender's email address and know the content is safe. Dear Mr. Mullen, We are writing to you to express our concerns for the proposed housing development project located at 430 Mohegan Avenue Parkway and 23 B Old Norwich Road. The development would include 16 single-family homes and 4 duplexes on 5.22 acres extending from Robert’s Court. The development’s single exit/entry point will direct all traffic down Robert’s Court and through Senkow Drive. According to the project’s traffic impact report this development would increase road traffic on Senkow and Robert’s Court by 271 trips per day. The report’s current estimate for Senkow Drive is 181 trips per day. This development would result in 2.5x the amount of vehicle traffic each day. This will have serious safety consequences for pedestrians and children. Our neighborhood (Senkow Dr, and Robert’s Court) demographics have been changing in recent years and we now have many more families with school-age children. We also have two families who have a special needs child. Robert’s Court and Senkow Drive are not equipped with sidewalks which significantly compounds the danger of more than doubling the current traffic volume. Pedestrian walkability and safe usage is a crucial aspect of this project’s negative effect on this neighborhood. The proposed dramatic increase in vehicle traffic in our neighborhood will be a particular threat to pedestrian safety due to our demographics and lack of access to sidewalks. Thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration of this issue. Respectfully yours, David and Katie Dragon and family Public Hearing Roberts Court 8-30(g) PL-24-14 Exhibit 14
