WATERFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY
BUDGET REQUEST
FY2023
First Selectman Robert J. Brule
December 15, 2021
Town of Waterford

RE: Request for $2000 Funding Fiscal Year 2022-2023
Dear Mr. Brule:
Thank you for accepting our request for funding during the fiscal year 2021-2022.
The Waterford Historical Society, a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization, has served
the interest of the residents of Waterford and our greater community since 1967.
Our legal statements of purpose remains to collect, protect, preserve and serve
as caretakers of our past, present and future.
Financially, our organization has been struggling to keep up with the
maintenance to our buildings and to fund our societies events. Our current year
budget shows expenses of $6,940 for insurance, security, utilities and
maintenance alone. With increasing usage of our buildings, especially our
smithy, electric bills are raising. Additional maintenance of the Bebbe Phillips
house in FY23 will require additional spending from the current fiscal year. Our
buildings are a critical, but high expenditure for our Society.
We have increased our programming costs in FY22 and FY23, as our programs
are important to the community to learn about Waterford’s history on many levels
and in a variety of ways. Our presence will be more apparent next spring with
elementary students (third and fifth graders) with class field trips to Jordan Green
to learn about local history. We also plan to go to elementary classrooms as
actors in period costume portraying local historical figures to relate fascinating
details of Waterford history. Our Society already impacts all the middle school
children in Clark Lane Middle School, the Williams School, and Saint Bernard
School since they will be motivated to create artwork in order to be selected by
their art teachers for gallery space in ART in WATERFORD in August 2022.
Other educational events for people of all ages will be woven into “Second
Saturdays”, which families can attend on Jordan Green.
We hope the Town of Waterford will help through funding us $2000 for FY 22/23.
Thank you in advance for considering our request.
Respectfully,
Jeffry Shrallow
