Review of Chapter 2.56 — Economic Development Commission, RTC 06/06/22
Background
At the RTM Regular Meeting on June 6, 2022 during new business The RTM voted
unanimously to refer the Review of Chapter 2.56 — Economic Development
Commission, to the Legislatin & Administration Standing Committee of the RTM
Summary
This committee met September 18, 2023 to discuss the issue of “Review of Chapter
2.56 — Economic Development Commission”. Director of Planning Jonathan Mullen,
AICP explained his interactions with the Economic Development Commission (EDC).
The commission took an active role with the American Rescue Plan Funds by
distributing grants to small business. The committee will play a role in an RFP to solicit
responses from qualified consultants to develop an Economic Development Strategy for
the Town of Waterford. The EDC has added a local businessperson as well as seated
members from the real estate industry along with other members that give the
commission a diverse perspective. He believes that the EDC is headed in the right
direction.
Recommendation
At this meeting the committee unanimously recommended the issue out of committee
with no action taken to ordinance because the Director of Planning feels the EDC is
moving in the right direction.
