WATERFORD RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION
                   PROGRAM COORDINATOR’S MARCH 2021 REPORT

Summer Program Booklets are out and it is looking like we will be able to
hold our summer activities.  We are getting new numbers from the state
every week on what is allowed and what is not.  Currently the pool, which
we are asked about often, is still not available.  We could do the lap swim
with every other lane available, but the open swim is still four family
members in a lane, lane lines staying in the pool and everyone would need
to make reservations.  No swim lessons in-group settings, no aqua fitness
classes that are requiring 12 feet separation.  We are hoping that things
will change and we can open up the pool soon.

As Brian will probably report, we are looking to do a soft opening of the
community center starting on April 5.  We are looking to hire someone for
the front desk and one of our past evening monitors will do afternoons.
The building will still close at this time at 4pm and people will have to
make reservations. It is doable and once we get going we can make
adjustments as we go, but try to predict what they may be.

Applications are being taken for summer jobs.  We are hoping to start doing
interviews the first week of April.  We will see if we will have to do the
interviews through zoom or in person.  We will be trying to get interviews
done the middle of May as there is going to be a lot of safety training
that will need to be done.


Currently Hannah Corrigan from Mitchell College is working with us as an
intern.  Hannah has been very helpful with her computer design knowledge.
She has been working on pamphlets to hand out and has been learning a lot
about setting up programs.

We have met with some new instructors who have presented some new ideas for
programs and I am hoping to implement some of them this fall.  In addition,
we are looking for a new Yoga instructor for Beginning and Continuing Yoga.
 There are so many different kinds of yoga and we offer two other types and
neither of these teachers are available.

Just a fun fact to mention. The Friendship School has teachers who take
their classroom for walks or adventures looking for items almost daily.
There is one class of three year olds who come at least once a week, stop
outside my window and do the pledge of allegiance to the flag every time.
It brings a smile to my face and we waive to each other each time.  Just a
nice little tidbit for you all.
