The proposal is to excavate approximately one foot of the muck layer in the pond. The
excavation will extend down an additional 6 to 10-inches to provide a 3-foot water depth in
the pond.
The excavation in the middle of the pond will be about 40-inches to provide a deeper water
habitat for fisheries and turtles. Boulders, nesting islands, and logs will be added to the pond
to provide structure for wildlife. The fish, turtles and frogs will be collected from the pond
during dewatering by capturing them with seine and hand nets. The animals will transferred
to Rich Snarski’s pond in Marlborough.
The boardwalk is proposed on the eastern edge of the pond which is presently mowed.
Helical piles will be screwed into the soil to limit the wetland disturbance. The wetland
vegetation is not expected to be significantly impacted.
A native wildflower/pollinator meadow will be constructed on the south side of the pond to
provide habitat for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
Map L-S.5 lists the temporary and permanently wetland impacts. I believe the dredging of
the pond, construction of a boardwalk, adding wildlife structures to the pond, and the
construction of the wildflower/pollinator meadows will be enhancements to the pond for
wildlife and the public.
