Re:
Status Report - Implementation of Corrective Actions

Restoration of Riparian Habitat and Channel Stabilization

54 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford, CT

Dear Ms. Fitzgerald:

Turner Environmental, LLC previously submitted a plan on behalf of Rope Ferry Commons for
Restoration of Riparian Habitat and Channel Stabilization as a response to a Notice of Violation
issued February 5, 2021. That plan was approved by the Waterford Conservation Commission
on May 19, 2021.

Site work was initiated on June 12, 2021 and completed on June 16, 2021. The plantings as
specified in the approved plan were installed June 19, 2021. The stream channel was
redirected more toward a more central location away from the eastern bank of the stream that
enters the Rope Ferry pond. The steep bank slopes were reduced by moving material from the
west to the east side of the stream.

Approximately fifteen feet of additional rip rap was installed where the stream enters from the
north and the stream entry was relocated approximately two feet further west. This effectively
relocated the stream channel approximately two feet west for much of the length of the
previously disturbed area.

The only minor change in the scope of work was that the site work was performed from the
east side of the stream rather than the west side as proposed. This was due to the unstable
nature of the emergent vegetation area on the west side. While this caused some tracking on
the east side of the stream, the disturbed area was loamed and re-seeded to stabilize it. Grass
seed was spread all the way to the stream including the newly exposed soils along both sides of
the stream.

The plantings introduced included:
100 “Woolgrass” 2” dia. plugs,
150 Tussock Sedges 2” dia. plugs, these were planted in a saw tooth pattern on both sides of
the stream.
50 Wild blue lupine 2” dia. plugs, on the eastern bank near the straw waddle that remains.

50 Swamp Milkweed 2” dia. plugs, both of these on the eastern bank near the straw waddle
that remains.
50 Butterfly Milkweed 2” dia. plugs, and
50 Blue Flag Iris 2” dia. plugs in the emergent vegetation area on the western side of the
stream.
Photographs of the site showing the work performed and plantings are attached to this letter.

The plantings will be inspected in approximately 30 days (sometime around July 30) and at the
end of the growing season (sometime around September 30). We will prepare a report for
submittal to the Conservation Commission currently estimated to be on July 30 and on
November 7, 2021, respectively. The reports will document the survival of the plantings and
success of the soil stabilization areas and will include photographs.

Please feel free to contact me at (860) 705-8704 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Turner Environmental, LLC
