doors, and using the library. Attend one or attend all 
sessions based on your availability. Our facilitator is 
Jeri DeSantis, a librarian and teacher of English to 
Speakers of Other Languages at new London Adult 
Education. No registration is required for this event.

FEATURED PROGRAMS: 
Saturday, October 25, 2:00PM - 4:00PM  
Vechornytsi: a celebration of Ukrainian culture 
Join us as we celebrate the music and culture of Ukraine with Quaker 
Hill resident Kateryna Diachenko who will perform several traditional 
Ukrainian folk songs and share memories of her childhood.  We will 
also be joined by Yevshan, a Ukrainian Vocal Ensemble conducted by 
Alexander Kuzma.  Yevshan explores the cross-currents between 
Ukrainian music and the folk and sacred music of other East European communities. In their concerts and 
studies, they hope to establish common ground between the musical heritage of Ukraine and the heritage 
of other peoples around the world. There will be offerings of Ukrainian sweets and crafts for the children.

An Evening with Jane Barton Griffith: author, activist, preservationist* 
Jane Barton Griffith was co-director from 1970 to 1973 of the American Friends Service Committee’s      
humanitarian projects in South Vietnam.  When Jane returned from Vietnam,      
Amnesty International sponsored her on a speaking tour in the US and Europe and 
her photographs were widely published nationally and internationally.  In 2025 Jane 
wrote the book Two Women, One War: an unlikely friendship during the Vietnam 
War - Women have been overlooked in the history of the Vietnam War. The gap is 
now filled with this riveting, true memoir. Two Women, One War is a story of the 
insanity of war, the human capacity for resilience, the power of hope, and the 
strength of women.    
 
Jane has also held positions at the World Wildlife Fund, National Gallery of Art, National Trust for Historic 
Preservation, UNICEF, and the Center for International Policy, as well as the Asian Art Museum in  
Stockholm, Sweden. Jane was asked to create a national nonprofit for autism, now called Autism Speaks.  
Registration is suggested. 
October Art Wall: 
Our October artist is Fred Verillo of Old Lyme, a self-taught pho-
tographer,  exhibiting photographs of nature, water, and the ur-
ban landscape with an ever-changing palette of clouds and sky.
