Adult Volunteer Opportunities: 
Earth Day Every Day CT strives to create events for children and their adults to provide positive inter-
active experiences in Nature and/or Environmental Sciences. We created Earthfest CT at McCook Park 
each May for families to meet over 20 nonprofit organizations while listening to local children's bands. 
We are working on creating another Fall festival in Waterford, joining with Waterford Land Trust in Sep-
tember for their 50th Anniversary. Stay tuned! 
Each generation creates the following generation’s opportunities and challenges. Children are not only 
the recipients of our policies, attitudes and the results of our current actions, their subsequent choices 
hold the future of the entire planet. What we teach our children will create the world we live in as they 
grow to be the decision-makers. We are facing choices now that our predecessors never imagined. It is 
important that our children understand the global ramifications of their environmental decisions. 
EF High School Exchange Year is accepting volunteer host family applications in Waterford and sur-
rounding communities! EF brings high school students from 15 different countries from Asia, Europe and 
South America to the US for a semester or academic year. Students are fluent in English, come with their 
own spending money, and are excited to experience your little piece of America! 
In addition, we are looking for local coordinators and/or host families. Local coordinators promote the 
program and recruit host families, and then provide support to exchange students, host families and 
schools throughout the exchange year.

Coastal Waters Girl Scout Service Unit. We work with girls K-12 grades. We work on 
leadership skills though outdoor activities, service projects, and other different activi-
ties. If you have something you would like help with or want to help you can contact

The Goshen Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary was incorporated in 1946 as an organization to support the Goshen 
firefighters.    Over the past 77 years the organization has evolved to its present state of providing finan-
cial assistance to various individuals and groups.  Some of these include Waterford Youth Services and 
scholarships to high school seniors residing in the Goshen district.    Our fundraisers are held in May (plant 
sale), August (firemen’s fair) and October (fall festival).

Masonicare Home health and Hospice Volunteer program: High school seniors 
up through retirement age are needed to offer companionship and socialization to 
our Hospice patients, either in a facility, or their home. A brief training is required 
prior to visiting and visit schedules are flexible and based on your availability.

Save the River-Save the Hills is a grassroots environmental organization based on the 
Niantic River Estuary. Our mission is to preserve the health of the Niantic River Estuary, its 
Watershed in the towns of East Lyme, Montville, Salem and Waterford, and the natural beau-
ty of the Oswegatchie Hills. Our programs include:  
 Operating a pump-out boat on the Niantic River to collect and properly dispose of heavily 
concentrated waste from boats;  
 Water Quality Testing the waters of the River and tributaries;  
 Advocating for the preservation of the Oswegatchie Hills and other forests within the Niantic River Watershed; 
 Advocating for sewers for waterfront neighborhoods; 
 Creating and sponsoring an annual Niantic River Appreciation Day with the Kayak Regatta 
 Encouraging the towns of Waterford and East Lyme to fulfill their obligations under the Federal Phase II Storm Water Regula-
tions; 
 Working with the Niantic River Watershed Committee on fulfilling their watershed plan

of older adults and adults with disabilities. Services include Medicare counseling,

Throughout United Cerebral Palsy’s (UCP) 70-year history of serving people with 
Cerebral Palsy (CP), we’ve acquired the knowledge and skills to support adults and 
children with a wide range of disabilities, not just CP. UCP’s programs for people 
with disabilities in Eastern Connecticut are designed to help increase independence 
at work, in school and at home. Every day, we offer programs for people with disa-
bilities in CT to help them develop employment skills, find accessible housing and 
access assistive technology.

VITAS Healthcare provides hospice services throughout Connecticut (offices are in 
Middlebury, Fairfield and Glastonbury) and volunteers play an important role in our 
work. The activities that volunteers can get involved with are wide-ranging and can  
include: 
• Providing companionship and emotional support for the patient (e.g., playing cards, 
doing a craft project, reading, or just being present and listening) 
• Pet therapy 
• Music therapy (e.g., playing a guitar) 
• Providing respite for the primary caregiver (e.g., giving the patient’s primary caregiver a break by running errands, doing light 
chores, etc.) 
 Clerical support (assisting with mailings, etc.) 
 Telephone support (checking in on the family)

Adult & Teen Volunteer Opportunities:  
The Brian Dagle Foundation — anchored in hope and empowered to support, is dedicated to the heal-
ing of grieving adults as well as community education on mental health and suicide awareness. We 
offer grief support groups, workshops, and retreats as well as suicide prevention and awareness 
events and trainings throughout Eastern Connecticut and Southern New England. We also host the 
Niantic Jingle 5K each year and maintain a Healing Garden on our property on Main Street in Niantic.

Habitat for Humanity is a long-term solution to the housing crisis that is prevalent in Eastern Con-
necticut. United Way has documented through their ALICE (Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained 
Employee) Report that in our area, 1 in 4 families struggle to afford their home, and 1 in 10 families 
live in poverty. HFHECT helps households in our community who need our help the most-
households who are low-income or very-low-income households, earning less than 80% of the area 
median income. We partner with these families to build high-quality homes with an affordable 
mortgage never to exceed 30% of their annual income. Habitat families agree to invest 150-200 
sweat equity hours, where they will build homes alongside our paid construction supervisor and 
volunteer builders; or volunteer at our ReStores or administrative office. 
Habitat for Humanity operates two ReStore locations, Waterford and Plainfield. ReStore is a non-
profit home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, 
home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used to build 
strength, stability, and self-reliance locally and around the world.

The mission of the Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park is to work in coop-
eration with the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environ-
mental Protection (DEEP) to support its mission of bringing to the visiting 
public the history of Fort Trumbull and local area. In addition to historical interpretation of the fort's role in local and national 
history, the areas of interest to The Friends include program development, archival management and volunteer coordination. 
Friends have assisted with  updating museum displays, building and installing a platform for band concerts and various mainte-
nance projects for the preservation, protection, and interpretation of this historically important site.

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation (TBBCF) is a southeastern Connecticut based 
charitable organization established by two empowering and devoted women, Terri 
Brodeur and Norma Logan, who were affected by breast cancer and realized the need 
for a new kind of breast cancer research organization. TBBCF is purely focused on 
providing critical funding to research, pledging 100% of gross fundraising dollars directly 
to breast cancer research.  Our dream is to find the cure for breast cancer.

Waterford Country School is dedicated to doing 'Whatever It Takes' to enrich the lives of children 
and strengthen families. Founded in 1922, by the Schacht family, it now utilizes 320 acres of beautiful 
woodland in Quaker Hill, CT. This nonprofit agency has 9 separate programs that assist children and 
families who need specialized education and resources. In addition to providing therapeutic services 
and education for children, Waterford Country School is also licensed to rescue and rehabilitate in-
jured wildlife, taking in almost 200 animals a year. As a leader in Cornell University Models to create

The Miracle League of SECT provides opportunities for children throughout Southeastern 
Connecticut with physical, cognitive, and developmental challenges to participate in recrea-

The mission of the Waterford Historical Society is to collect, protect, preserve and serve as caretak-
ers of Waterford's past, present and future. The Society presents in-person tours and living history 
events in and around its historic buildings on Jordan Green during the spring and summer months,

The Waterford Land Trust, Inc. was incorporated in 1974 by several Connecticut 
College professors and other local conservation- minded persons to protect nat-
ural resources and provide for open space in Waterford and adjoining towns. 
Today, the land trust remains to preserve areas that have an impact on cleaner 
water, air, and land.  The 25 preserves being held provides places to enjoy a walk 
along trails or through woods and fields, and to learn from and enjoy being im-
mersed in nature.  The Waterford Land Trust is a private, non-profit organization 
existing on the donations of local citizens, and corporations, and by the receipt 
of grants.

The Waterford Regional Lions Club is a proud member of Lions Clubs International, the largest commu-
nity service organization in the world.  Our mission is to provide humanitarian services on both the
