WATERFORD LOCAL VETERANS’ EXEMPTION
BASIC INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be Connecticut resident & reside in Waterford.
2. Have a basic veteran’s exemption on file in Town Clerk’s office prior to
October 1, 2026. (certain dates apply, check with Assessor’s office for
listing)
3. Income must be below $81,500 (married) or $71,300 (single).
Qualifying income is all taxable and non-taxable income, plus Social
Security, tax-exempt interest & pension. (Veteran’s pensions or
disability payments must be included.
4. If you are 100% VA disabled there are different income levels
available. Please contact the Assessor’s office.
FILING PERIOD: FEBRUARY 1 – OCTOBER 31, 2026
WHERE TO FILE:
ASSESSOR’S OFFICE
WHAT TO PROVIDE: Federal Tax Return 1040 for 2025, along with your
Social Security 1099’s for 2025 (if applicable). If
you do not file a return provide all 1099’s
showing income for 2025. For example: Interest
income, dividends, annuities, pensions, alimony,
lottery winnings, etc.

How will this affect my tax bill?
Since this form must be filed in advance of the assessment date, this
benefit will provide you with an additional $10,000 exemption off the
assessment of your real estate or motor vehicle starting with the July 2027
tax bill (Grand List of October 1, 2026).
