Waterford Senior Citizen Commission AMENDED Regular Meeting Minutes April 23, 2024 Present: Joyce Vlaun, Kathleen McNamara, Dina Lopes, Rick Beaney, Anita Collins, Anne Darling, Dan Rissi, Susan Marelli (New Appointment) Also Present: Dani Gorman, Human Services Administrator, Terry Wheeler, Assistant Director Senior Services, Heidi McSwain, Human Services Coordinator, Jen Bracciale, Senior Services Program Instructor, Richard Muckle, Selectman I. Call to Order: Kathleen McNamara called the meeting to order at 4:06pm II. Established a Quorum: Quorum was established III. Public Comment: No public comment IV. Approval of the minutes of the March 26, 2024 meeting: Motion made by Kathleen McNamara and seconded by Dina Lopes Vote (4-0-4) V. Correspondence: No Correspondence VI. Election of Officers Amended: Motion made by Rick Beaney to amend the appointment of Chair and Co-Chairs to the Senior Citizens Commission, electing Joyce Vlaun as Chair and Dina Lopes and Kathleen McNamara as Co-Vice Chairs. Dan Rissi seconded the motion. Motion passed Vote: 8-0-0 VII. Committee Reports a. Budget- Dani Gorman presented additional appropriations due to contractual obligations and retirements. Dan Rissi made a motion to approve the additional appropriations Dina Lopes seconded the motion. Motion passed b. Nomination Committee- None c. Planned Giving Sub-Committee: Kathleen McNamara suggested having a Planned Giving Sub-committee meeting to be held in May. d. Transportation Sub-Committee: None VIII. Director/ Assistant Director Report for March 2024: Dani Gorman informed the commission that Senior Services remains busy. Dani Gorman let the commission know of the Older American’s Luncheon will be on May 8th and Waterford Police Chaplin Joe Parise will be honored with the Jody Nazarchyk Award. Also Senior Services would be working with Waterford Police, CT Legal Services, Waterford Library and Recreation and Parks to launch a program detecting scams called Check First. Terry Wheeler updated the commission on the community garden that will have a sister garden at the Waterford Public Library. IX. New Business: Discussion on the Patricia Ryan Memorial Plaque was had. Also Terry Wheeler and Jen Bracciale gave the commission an update on a possible multiuse media room, discussion followed. X.
