Waterford Youth and Family Services Advisory Board Wednesday,
June 10, 2020
Special Meeting 3pm
Remote Access
Present: Board Members in Attendance: M.Buscetto (Chairman), D
Gorman (Youth and Family Services Director), J Trelli (Program
Coordinator), J. Smith, A. Moger, J. Nazarchyk (Selectwoman), M.
Cristofero, A. Gates Lamothe, M. Sylvestre, L. Sachatello. A. Moger
Absent: D. Concascia, K. Sullivan, S. Cash, A. Moger, G. Ryan, M.
Santagelo, A. Fedor, M. Geer Jr.
Meeting was called to order at 3:02 pm by M. Buscetto (Chairman)
after a quorum was established.
Correspondence: D. Gorman reported no correspondence at this
time.
Directors Report: D. Groman reported that for the fall and winter
that program numbers were incredibly high and that Program
Coordinator J. Trelli was facilitating the after school programs and
was very popular with the children attending. D. Gorman also
reported that the winter holiday program had been successful and
that Youth and Family Services had been on course to prepare for
Camp DASH and the upcoming summer but that those plans were
stopped due to the global pandemic. D. Gorman reported that Youth
and Family Services had changed course and was focusing on the
Interfaith Food Locker during this time while slowly moving back to
regular business.
Program Report: J. Trelli reported that starting towards the end of
June Youth and Family Services would be offering virtual program

classes for children. J. Trelli stated that children would be able to
keep the school issued Chrome books that were distributed and that
he and the town IT Department had worked together to get apps the
children would be able to access on the Chrome books. J. Trelli
informed the board that these programs would be free of charge
and that registrations would launch towards the end of the week. J.
Trelli also reported that towards the end of July Youth and Family
Services
would be offering small enrichment based camps, Camp DASH, that
would run from 9 am till 4 pm. And registrations for those would
also be coming. J. Trelli reported that staff would be staying on
through the summer and that there had also been a new hire to
help with programs as well. J. Trelli also reported that Youth and
Family Services is working with different town departments to
facilitate a family drive in on Saturday August 1, 2020 that would
take place down at Waterford Beach.
Student Report: A. Moger (Vice Principal of Waterford High School)
reported that Waterford High School was geering up for graduation
and that seniors had picked up their caps and gowns and that the
Students Awards Ceremony had been very successful. L. Sachatello
also commented on how nice the ceremony had been. A. Moger
reported that over $100,000.00 in scholarships had been awarded
to high school seniors and that in the coming days more events
would be taking place to honor the seniors. Including, seniors and
their families coming to the high school to accept senior gifts, take
home their senior signs, sign the school rock, accept care packages
that had been put together for the seniors that included letter from
their parents and also from their freshman selves. A. Moger also
reported that on this day seniors would be able to walk across a
stage, accept their diploma folder from the high school’s principal
and have their photo taken with a professional photographer. A.
Moger reported that a drive thru style graduation ceremony was
scheduled for June 18th at Waterford Beach and had mentioned
that the First Selectman had written to Governor Lamont about
possibly having an in person graduation at Waterford High School.
New Business: J. Smith (Waterford Library) reported that the

Waterford Public Library was scheduled to open back up on
Wednesday June 17th and that their Summer Children’s Reading
Program would be happening virtually this year and would begin
on June 22nd. J. Smith also reported that she and J. Trelli were
working together and that she would be participating in both Youth
and Family Services virtual summer programs and also the
enrichment programs later in the summer. J. Trelli mentioned that
J. Smith and the Waterford Library had been instrumental in
working with Youth and Family Services to make the family drive
in movie night happen, in terms of access to movies being available.
Adjournment: M. Buscetto made a motion to adjourn the Advisory
meeting at 3:17 pm and was seconded by L. Sachatello.
