In person = Waterford Youth and Family Services Advisory Board Committee Meeting April 14, 2021 Present: M. Buscetto III (Chairman), S. Cash, M. Cristofaro, D. Gorman (WYFSB Director), C. Muckle, J. Nazarchyk, J. Smith, K. Sullivan on Absent: R. Brule (First Selectman), B. Mahoney (Chief of Police), D. Concascia, M. Geer, A: Gates-Lamothe, E. McNamara, A. Meeting was called:to order at 5:01 pm and quorum was established Approval of minutes from prior meeting: Minutes were approved by K. Sullivan and seconded by S. Cash. Correspondences: D. Gorman (WYSEB Director) shared thank you notes that had come into Youth and Family Services for families that had been assisted and stated that some thank you letters also contained donations to Waterford Youth and Family Services. D. Gorman passed the thank you notes around so that members of the board could look through the thank you notes. Directors Report & Financial Report: D. Gorman reported funds had been moved around for the postage line due to the thank you letters to residents who donated to Youth and Family Services. D. Gorman also shared that the phone line had also gone up due to providing clinicians with cell phones for online sessions with clients during the pandemic. D. Gorman said that clinic services have gone up and the line had been overdrawn. With the stipend from the schools Youth and Family Services would be able to transfer funds back into the line and D. Gorman is hoping to hire another clinician to support the number of referrals coming into Youth and Family Services. D. Gorman informed the board that Youth and Family Services budget had passed the Board of Selectman and Board of Finance and was moving on to the RIM. J. Nazarchyk asked if Youth and Family Services could receive some of the COVID -19 support funds and D. Gorman and M. Buscetto said they could. Program Report: D. Gorman reported that the Food Bank remains active and steady but has slowed down with the number of residents calling in to access the food bank. D. Gorman stated that planning for Camp DASH has begun and that the focus of this summer is to support working parents to be able to get back to work, this was supported by the first selectman and the superintendent of schools. D, Gorman briefed the board that there would be three camp sites this summer (Clark Lane Middle School, Oswegatchie Elementary School, and Quaker Hill Elementary School). Registrations would be launching in May and payments for camp would be online this year. D. Gorman informed the board that recruitment for camp had started and that the schools and first selectman’s office wanted to focus on the supervisor positions of the campers. This will be high this year, so trainings for camp this year is going to focus on a wide range of topics, including First Aid, CPR, and Cultural Competency, along with Camp DASH'’s Policies and Procedures. D. Gorman also stated that many of the trainings were boxed trainings and that Youth and Family Services was also registering for the American Camp Association which provided more trainings as well. D. Gorman appraised the board that Camp DASH was working with Summer Academy to bus students to camp locations and that a majority of the busing cost is covered by the BOE. Ordering for camp had also begun and that Youth and Family Services was working on having sub mini camps come into Camp DASH in the afternoon that campers could also sign up for. K. Sullivan stated that Parks and Recreations would also be going to the two elementary school locations and sanitizing the playground equipment in between Parks and Recreations Playground Program and Camp DASH. D. Gorman informed the board that the front desk position for Camp DASH was also open and Youth and Family Services was looking for people specifically for that position. . Student Report: D. Gorman appraised the board of the two students who had been selected to receive the Waterford Youth and Family Services Scholarship and had been in contact with Kirk Samuelson from Waterford High School with those names. , Old Business: No old business at this time . New Business: J. Smith informed the board that she and J. Trelli have been discussing Camp DASH and Waterford Library collaborate together for the summer and either having J. Smith visit camp or having groups come to the library. J. Smith offered that Waterford Library is also hosting zoom programs that Camp DASH could participate in and that J. Trelli and J. Smith are working on possibly having a Camp DASH library card for campers. K. Sullivan added that she and J. Trelli are coordinating Camp DASH beach days to be located. at Waterford Beach this year. They were working out drop off points for the buses, times that campers would come, and the days each camp would come to Waterford Beach. K. Sullivan also stated that when Camp DASH is at Waterford Beach they would have a roped off section with a lifeguard. K. Sullivan asked if JRB had started back yet. D. Gorman stated that there had not been many referrals for the Juvenile Review Board and that as of present there were no current cases for JRB. M. Buscetto III then introduced new board member Chris Muckle to other members of the board. C. Muckle gave a background to the board and was welcomed by members. M. Buscetto III let the board know that C. Muckle is interested in working with the youths in town. S. Cash asked if there is any information about getting another person in Youth and Family Services to help Youth and Family Services Clerk. D. Gorman stated that the first selectman assured her that there would be someone to help. J. Nazarchyk inquired about possibly having a group of youth residents go around come the fall and winter and help seniors with yard clean up and shoveling. D. Gorman briefed the board stating that there used to be a program but it had been stopped, however if seniors called Youth and Family Services, the department tried to connect them with someone who could help. J. Nazarchyk also informed the board that there would be a Selectman Food Drive on Saturday April 17, 2021 from 10am-1:00pm at the Town Hall, 9, Motion to adjourn meeting was made at 5:44pm by M.
