Waterford Senior Citizen’s Commission Meeting Tuesday, April 22, 2025 Present: Joyce Vlaun (Chairman), Rick Beaney, Anne Darling, Cathy Gonyo, Dina Lopes, Marilyn Lusher, Dani Rissi, Susan Marelli Also Present: Dani Gorman (Human Services Administrator), Terry Wheeler (Assistant Director Senior Services), Heidi McSwain (Human Services Coordinator), Jen Braccaile, Tom Kennedy (Senior Citizen’s Liaison) Absent: Richard Muckle (Selectman Liaison) I. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 4:01 pm II. Establish a Quorum: Quorum was established III. Public Comment: Commission recognized Tom Kennedy as the liaison to the Senior Services Commission IV. Approval of the minutes of the March 25, 2025 Commission meeting: Dina Lopes made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 25, 2025 Commission meeting, Anne Darling seconded the motion. Motion passed (8-0-0) V. Correspondence: A proposed revised mission statement was presented to the commission by Terry Wheeler. Motion was made by Dina Lopes to accept the revised mission statement as presented. Motion was seconded by Anne Darling, motion passed (8-0-0). Dani Gorman informed the commission that a letter would be coming to the commission from the First Selectman requesting that Tom Kennedy remain as a liaison to the Senior Citizen’s Commission representing Waterford Senior population. VI. Election of Officers: Dan Rissi made a motion to accept the nominations of Joyce Vlaun as Chairperson and Dina Lopes and Dan Rissi as Co-Vice Chairs. Marilyn Lusher seconded the motion. Motion passed (8-0-0) VII. Committee Reports: a. Budget: Dani Gorman informed the commission of the RTM Budget hearing on May 7th at 7:00pm. b. Nomination Committee: Election of Officers held c. Planned Giving Sub-Committee: Two requests on behalf of residents were submitted to the commission with approval. d. Transportation: Commission was informed that now vans have a device on them that tracks location and speed. e. Policies Ad Hoc Committee: Revised mission statement was approved by commission VIII. Director/Assistant Director Report: Dani Gorman informed the commission that Human Services cases remain high especially among seniors and veterans. Dani also reported that the AARP Tax Aids saw 200 cases for tax help also that a Sunshine Club started with staff person going long term care facilities as an outreach program. Gorman also updated the commission on the progress of the Multi Media Room. Renters Rebate and Farmers Market will also be starting up in the Spring with Heidi McSwain and Mindy Stone. Terry Wheeler informed the commission about events happening at Senior Services reporting that many programs are at capacity including new programs starting. Dani Gorman updated the commission on continuing having the visiting nurse coming to the center. Motion made by Dina Lopes to accept the reports as presented, Anne Darling seconded the motion. Motion passed (8-0-0) IX. New Business: Follow up to resident’s letter asking about tax relief for seniors in town. Discussion followed. X.
