Town of Waterford Shellfish Commission Meeting Minutes of Tuesday, September 3, 2024 7:00 p.m. – Waterford Town Hall 1. Call to Order Chairman Francolino called the regularly scheduled meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. after establishing a quorum. 2. Pledge of Allegiance 3. Roll Call Present were Commissioners Francolino and Calkins. Absent were Commissioners Drennen, Porter, Jamroga and Healy. 4. Approval of the August 6, 2024, Meeting Minutes Motion made by Commissioner Calkins, seconded by Commissioner Francolino to approve the August 6, 2024, meeting minutes as filed. All in favor, motion carried. 5. Correspondence Chairman Francolino indicated that he will continue to forward all correspondence he receives in between meetings to the Commission members to keep everyone as up to date as possible regarding shellfish related business and events. 6. Treasurer’s Report Commissioner Porter was not present to discuss the Treasurer’s Report with the Commission. 7. Monthly Monitoring and Sampling Report Chairman Francolino stated that the recreational shell fishing areas are currently open. 8. New Business a. Discussion regarding potential meetings with local Harbor Management and Shellfish Commissions. Chairman Francolino received an invitation from the Chairman of the Waterford Harbor Management Commission to attend a meeting on September 12, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Waterford Police Station meeting room for the local entities to meet and discuss issues and policy with one another, and he is looking forward to open and productive communication between the local Commissions. He will report back to the Commission after the meeting. 9. Old Business a. Update Regarding Progress to the Shellfish Resource Management Plan and Maps. Commissioner Drennen was not present to update the Commission regarding progress made to date. b. Update Regarding Re-Stock for the 2024 Recreational Shell Fishing Season. Chairman Francolino stated the Commission was able to secure twenty (20) one hundred count bags of certified cherrystones and ten (ten) two hundred count bags of certified oysters that were distributed into the recreational shell fishing areas over the past month. It is his hope to re-stock one more time before the waters become too cold to do so, and he is currently working on securing the restock. He will let the Commission members know if he can get additional cherrystones and oysters so that they can help with the distribution into the recreational shell fishing areas. He thanked those that helped with the distribution last month. 10. Public Comment Regarding Items Specifically Relating to Waterford Shellfish Business Only. 11.
