HISTORIC PROPERTIES COMMISSION
Minutes
March 10, 2020
The March 10, 2020, Regular Meeting of the Historic Properties Commission was called to order at 7:00
p.m. by Chairman John O'Neill.
Present: John O'Neill, Debra Walters, Patrick Crotty, Robert Nye.
Absent: Vivian Brooks, Eileen Olynciw, Mark Olynciw.
Guest: Jim Lundborg.
Appointment of Alternate: R. Nye for V. Brooks.
Minutes: Motion by Walters, seconded by Crotty, to accept the Minutes of the January 14, 2020,
Regular Meeting with the following addition: The Purchasing Agent waved the bid process for the
Nevins Cottage assessment.
Voting in favor: Unanimous.
Cemeteries: in an effort to generate public interest in the town’s neglected burying grounds, the
commission agreed to host a “cemetery clean-up” at the Church & Williams Cemetery on Saturday, April
18, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. Chairman O’Neill will post the event on web sites. A hopeful outcome may be
the eventual formation of a historic cemetery association. Also, P. Crotty’s 2 photograph albums of the
town’s neglected cemeteries are now part of the library’s permanent collection.
Nevins Cottage: GNCB Engineers will begin a structural assessment of the cottage this spring. The
contract will also include a use assessment.
Oil Mill District: There’s an outside chance the Preservation Council will review the NR draft in June if
the municipal historian can complete a review of the consultant’s draft before the end of March.
Otherwise the nomination will be on the Council’s September agenda.
Cohanzie School: no activity.
Sechiaroli Barn: The municipal historian accompanied the new facilities manager, David Garside, to
evaluate “demolition by neglect” at the barn.
Jordan Milf Park: no activity.
Historic Preservation Month (May): Eileen Olynciw may present a program on neglected cemeteries.
Other: The Friends of Seaside will meet with the Harkness Park superintendent at Seaside Park on
March 17, at 3 p.m.

Adjournment: Motion by R. Nye, seconded by D. Walters, to adjourn at 8:00 p.m.
Voting in favor: Unanimous.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert Nye
Secretary/Treasurer
